ALLA RUSTICA - Baroque Folk Music - Experience the
toe-tapping rhythms and exotic flavors of Baroque folk
music from Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, and Scotland
side-by-side with so-called "rustic" pieces by such
composers as Vivaldi, Marais, and Rameau who imitated
in a more genteel fashion the popular music of their time
and place - a lively mixture of "high" and "low" music.
Musica Pacifica achieved recognition as one of North America's premiere baroque ensembles soon after the group's founding in 1990. They have been described by the press as "some of the finest baroque musicians in America" (American Record Guide) and "among the best in the world" (Alte Musik Aktuell). At home in the San Francisco Bay area, the artists are members of Philharmonia Baroque, and they appear with many other prominent early music ensembles nationalIy and abroad. They have three times been a featured ensemble at the Berkeley Early Music Festival, and their first appearance there was cited in Early Music (UK) as "perhaps the standout of the entire festival." They have performed on prestigious concert series throughout the United States, and at festivals in Germany and Austria; and their seven CDs have received national and international acclaim.
